RUTH SANDERSON'S love of fairy tales and fantasy began when she was a child, reading her father’s battered copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales. This love grew as she spent much of her childhood in the woods playing in a pink castle in an abandoned theme park. “The woods have always been a magical place for me, and much of my personal work now centers around the theme of nature spirits, in the form of the green man, allegories of the seasons, tree spirits, and fairy paintings.”

Ruth has illustrated over 80 books for children, and her fairy tales have received much acclaim. She has exhibited in museums, galleries, and numerous science fiction and fantasy conventions. Ruth was the Artist Guest of Honor at the 2011 World Fantasy Convention, and received the Inkpot Award at the 2013 San Diego Comicon. All of the original artwork from her book The Twelve Dancing Princesses is now in the permanent collection of the Norman Rockwell Museum, where she had a one-woman show from Dec 7, 2013- March 9, 2014, featuring 64 oil paintings from her fairy tales. Her first art book, Golden Dreams, The Art of Ruth Sanderson was published in late 2013.
